It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, each year, roughly 4 million people in the United States alone are infected with the disease, which affects people of all ages, races, and genders.

Causes Of Chlamydia

In many cases, people have chlamydia for a long time without even knowing it. This is because the symptoms and signs of chlamydia often do not become present right away. In some cases, people never know they have the disease because the symptoms never become apparent. When the disease is discovered, it can be treated with relative ease. When left untreated, however, chlamydia can lead to more severe complications.

In its early stages, chlamydia is often very difficult to detect because there are little or no symptoms that indicate that there is a problem. Often when symptoms do occur, it is not until one to three weeks after you have been exposed to chlamydia. In many cases, these signs go ignored because they tend to be mild and go away on their own. As a result, they are very easy for most people to overlook. Some of the most common symptoms of chlamydia include lower abdominal pain, painful urination, vaginal discharge, discharge from the penis, painful intercourse in women, and testicular pain in men.

Of these signs, discharge from the vagina or penis, painful urination, or pain during sexual intercourse are the most likely to be indicative of a sexually transmitted disease, such as chlamydia. As a result, it is important to see your doctor as soon as possible if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. It is also important to see a health care professional in the result that you learn you have had sexual intercourse with someone who has chlamydia, even if you currently are not experiencing any symptoms. If you doctor discovers that you have been infected with chlamydia, you will most likely be prescribed antibiotics, and you will probably be told to abstain from sexual activity. These antibiotics will most likely clear up the infection within a few weeks.
